The AR8600MkII replaces the original AR8600 with availability hopefully from late June. Price has yet to be confirmed but hopefully no considerable change if any from the previous version.

The AR8600 has been enhanced in several areas with the new AR8600 MkII offering increased upper frequency range of 3.0GHz (3000MHz) whilst lower band sensitivity has been increased (now officially covering to 100kHz) with an enhancement to short wave performance by the addition of further bandpass filters and selection of alternative I.F. filters. Mini-Circuits RMS1 / RMS2 mixers have been employed with active SPM aerial switching devices (not diode-switching) abundantly employed throughout the signal path.

Normal operation of the AR8600 MKII is largely unaffected, just a few operational changes need be noted.

  • An LCD / keypad illumination (lamp) dimmer has been added
  • The LCD / keypad illumination can be squelch activated
  • The rear panel ACC configuration has been amended with audio out now being squelch controlled
  • The calibration of SCAN / SEARCH LEVEL has been changed

Mention has also been made of the AR86000 MkII having a TV output although specifics of this are not yet known especially with regard NTSC/PAl compatability.

Main Features of the AR8600 MkII are:
  • All mode receive and wide frequency coverage extended to 3GHz
  • Improved HF/Shortwave performance
  • Operation commonai;ty with the earlier AR8600 and AR8200
  • Five (5) optional SLOT CARDS (as used on the AR8200) may also be 'simultaneously' fitted with the option to select two to operate.
  • 8.33kHz airband channel spacing.
  • RS232 port is internally fitted as standard.
  • Optional Collins mechanical filters
  • A wide 10.7MHz i.f. output is provided for compatibility with the SDU5500 spectrum display unit.
  • Aerial input is via a BNC socket.
  • Internal Nicad Battery Pack option for mobile use
  • 12V d.c. operation.
